The Trauma a Grandmother Can Inflict

Do moms just cause their daughters years of therapy? No! Grandmoms are also included in the fun.

Case in point. My mom bought my daughters and my niece these darling, fluffy pink dresses for Easter. To the adults, the girls were scrumptious cupcakes dancing around. Niece Rachel was dancing because she loves dressing like a princess. Daughter Rachel was dancing because she was horrified that such a monstrosity was placed upon her. "May I take this off? May I take this off?" was her plea as she pulled and tugged and tried to wriggle out of the dress. I could only laugh. The concession was that she could wear her croc-like Dora shoes with the dress. While not necessarily fashionable, it was balm to a wounded soul. Shari wasn't thrilled either, but she was pacified by matching the two Rachels. (She has the inherent twin gene for matching people.)

At least I found out that my girls aren't sitting there each Sunday in church wondering, "Why doesn't my mom dress me all fancy?" Instead, they're looking at all the foo-foo girls saying, "Whew! At least I don't have to wear that!"

And don't worry, Mom. I'll pick up the therapy tab. I already inflict plenty of psychological damage on the girls!
