All (Not) Quiet on the Mid-Western Front

Lest you think I have run out of things to say, I thought I'd post a quick note to let you know what we've been up to.

Saturday we drove down to Houston. I definitely cannot live there, as it is already humid and almost yucky out. However, I did enjoy seeing palm trees again, spending time with family, seeing baby Victoria blessed, and seeing the statue of Sam Houston near Huntsville. All I can say is just when I think I could get used to living in Texas, I am reminded of just how different the Texans are. This statue was almost as big as the Statue of Liberty (without the pedestal!) Overkill? And along the road up and back we saw various billboards reminding people of why Texas is so great (maybe it's because they have so many transplants, or maybe it's because the Texans really would like to leave, but have to be reminded why they should probably stay). Anyway, my favorites were "Texas. The only state in the Union to enter by treaty. Texas. Our Texas." And I fail to see the point of this. Not everyone got forced into joining, if I recall my history correctly. A bunch signed up of their own free will! Oh, now the other one has slipped my mind. But I think you get the idea.

Monday my dad came up from visiting my sister in Houston and stayed with us till this morning. That was a blast! He loves road trips and traveling and seeing the sites as much as I do. We took him to Cafe Malaga for lunch--another triumphant meal. And then just a bunch of running around town. He got to walk with Josh lots and lots, pull kids in wagons while Mommy got a nap, played ball--so I think Dad's probably sleeping on his flight just about now. It was fun to see the kids get to know him. :)

Now I'm back to my usual routine, whatever that is. Tons to do today, so I've gotta jet. Stay tuned. I've had some thoughts percolating for a few days now. Maybe you'll get something interesting to read soon.
