Sometimes You Just Have to Come Out and Ask

Monday Josh had off of school, so my friend and I took our kids to the Frank Buck Zoo in Gainesville, Texas. It's just a tiny zoo, but there's a nice park next to it and a train that only costs $1 to ride for about 20 minutes. :) The day was cool and windy and sunny. I got a sunburn! But, thanks to my SPF30 face moisturizer, the sunburn is only around my collar line. You know, the kind that hurts and aches when you have your seat belt on. Ugh!

So, last night the burn was well, burning. I was trying to be comfortable in bed propped up on several pillows so I could read. But that darned sunburn wanted me to know it was there. So, I asked my darling Joseph to get me the aloe with lidocaine in it. He looked in our bathroom. Not there. I said, "Oh, it's probably above the stove then (where we keep our medicines). Don't worry about it." I said it in that "I don't really want to bother you" voice.

Well, Joseph then proceeded to crawl into bed with me. The next thing that started crawling was my nerves! They bristled and started squirming as I tried to contain my annoyance that my husband can't read my mind. So after stewing for a minute, I looked over at him, gave him only half of the "I can't believe after 8 years you still can't read my mind" look and said calmly, "Okay, that's not what I meant when I said 'don't worry about it.' What I was really saying was 'Please go downstairs anyway because you want to show me how very much you love me.' " He laughed and went downstairs.

A few minutes later my nerves were calm. My sunburn was tamed. And I got to bask in the fun of reading a good book and in the love of my sweetheart.

Sometimes, ladies, you just gotta spell it right out for them!
