Snowbirds

When I get old I have informed Joseph that we will be snowbirding in SoCal. I know there's a whole army of folks that go to places like middle-of-nowhere Quartzsite, Arizona, but that living in a city of RV's is just not for me. I like to know that someone can't hotwire my home and drive away with it while I'm out searching for fossils or quartz or whatever it is those desert snowbirds do.

I want to live where I can go out to eat at fun restaurants or where I can go to a bookstore or, more importantly, where I can have a package delivered to me from my favorite on-line bookstore. I want to be where all of my neighbors can't hear me laughing because their uninsulated trailer happens to be parked 3-inches away from mine. I want to know that I don't have to shake the scorpions out of my shoes in the morning. I want to not have to dump out my septic tank (or whatever trailers have). I want convenience! I want civilization! I want my MTV! (okay, just kidding about that last one.)

So, plan on visiting me in one of the swanky retirement communities on the beach somewhere. Unless, of course, as I age I forget that I want all of those things and simply go to where living is cheap, I can cross the border to get my drugs, and I can die of a scorpion attack. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
