Green in Texas

I love green. Maybe it's because I'm part Irish, maybe it's because I'm a Pennsylvanian. But nature's ubiquitous shade is almost as good as a diet Pepsi with a twist in soothing my ruffled nerves.

And my 16 years of living in Utah and California--not so green!

So I'm delighting in spring's ever-changing palette. Those barren trees* start with just a flirt of green. A "hey, baby! Look what's coming your way." Then the yellow-greens, lime greens, and chartreuses make their appearance. They say, "We're young! We're bold!" They make you do things like start getting pedicures so that your winter-white toes can join in the celebration. Next comes out the remaining palette. I need to buy a large box of Crayolas just to have a name for all of the colors. You might think you're just seeing "green," but what you're really seeing, if you look for it, is a rainbow of greens. These greens mature, grow deeper, show their experience with life.

I can never get enough of the tree-lined streets, the pastures surrounded with nature's fences, wheat poking its nose out of the ground, fields of tall grass with kisses of other colors.

Of course, when these trees start dropping their pollen in the fall, that's another story . . .

*I also love winter, when you can look through the barren trees and see things that you can't see during the rest of the year. But that's a whole other blog.
