Along with the traditional Thanksgiving feast and naps, we went to Celebration Park in nearby Allen, Texas, at the recommendation of friends. What a park! The entire playground area is handicapped accessible. And there's a lot of playground to be accessible. The play equipment was about the size of the equipment from five regular-sized playgrounds. Plus the park had two handicapped swings. We had a blast! Joshua enjoyed crawling and crawling and crawling. He could have used his walker, but why walk when you can crawl? I was so impressed that we finally have a place where Josh can do what he does best--be himself. The best thing is that the temperature was below 50 plus the cold wind was blowing dropping the temperature even more. We were bundled up from head to toe and loved every minute!
Then on Saturday I went to downtown McKinney for its annual Dickens of a Christmas weekend. Imagine it--the whole of downtown McKinney is decorated for Christmas, Victorian carolers stroll the streets filling your heart with the first strains of Christmas magic, horse-drawn carriages parade around the square, shop owners are donned in Victorian clothes. The entire square is a gigantic time machine. A quaint welcoming to the Ghost of Christmas Past.
At least it would have been had it not been raining! But despite the deluge, I enjoyed the decorations and the costumed shop owners. I could imagine the Ghost of Christmas Future as I go back next year with the family to enjoy what could become a favorite family tradition.
