I can practically live on them!
As a matter of fact, I have.
Picture it. 1994. I'm a hostess/waitress at Joe Vera's Mexican Restaurant in Provo, Utah. There are five things on the menu that we can eat for free. Bean and cheese burritos being one of them. (BTW, everything else was 50% off.) Now mind you, if we wanted meat, we could pay a whole whopping dollar. And that's what most of the employees did. I mean, who eats just a bean and cheese burrito when you're at a restaurant? The answer? Me.
One of the cooks had a little thing for me (quite unrequited). He'd throw some chicken in there thinking he was scoring big points. All he was getting was negative points. Being me, I'd go pay for the meat that I didn't want in the first place. I tried on several occasions to explain that I ONLY wanted the beans. No meat! He couldn't comprehend it. No meat?
I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because my life is a swirl of chaos. Maybe it's because . . . I don't know. Think of something. But I like the simplicity of the flour tortilla, refried beans, and cheese. If I'm lucky enough to have green sauce on it, score. If not, I could die happy eating "just" a bean burrito.
Vive la life's simple pleasures! And may I never have to live life sans frijoles.
