Buffalo Part II

Friday Highlights:

Lunch at Eagle House in Williamsville. The restaurant was built in 1827, and used to be an inn. The interior was old and aged and dark and I love, love, loved it. We ordered and split a beef on weck and grilled reuben. Oh . . . my . . . heavens. To die for. Beef on weck is a local favorite. And I knew that the grilled reuben would be divine (having been made in the northeast . . . no one does sandwiches like Easterners). Not much to say when you've been so close to heaven.

Then Markie and I went shopping. I had to buy a pair of Keen's. So why not do it in Buffalo? I've learned in my many travels that shot glasses take up way too much space (what I formerly collected). Now, I like to buy shoes as souvenirs. They're practical. They're cute. And every time I put them on, I can remember where I've been.

So we hit the mall. I can't even remember the last time I was at the mall. We had fun.

First, we bought the shoes. Then we walked around. We made a stop at Old Navy, because that's in the rules, you know. I bought several things and knew I'd better stop since I'd only brought a carry-on. (Joseph, I'm sure, appreciates my restraint.) Then a DQ treat and back to the car. (I never promised an interesting blog entry.)

Across the street was a bookstore, so we made a pit stop. I just had to buy a copy of the book my story had appeared in (Chicken Soup for the Soul: Campus Chronicles) for Markie. What made it especially fun was that Markie had been there for the playing out of the story our freshman year. :) It's nice to have friends you've known for a long time.

More hanging out that night and a bit of Broadway--we sang and danced to show tunes. I think we're pretty ready for the Great White Way.

Saturday Highlights:

We headed back to Williamsville to see this old mill by the Eagle House. There's a great little park below it and we had fun looking at the ducks and enjoying the beautiful beautiful day. (Although I was glad I had my allergy medicine . . . you could almost chew the pollen it was so thick.) Markie's 3-yr-old son wanted to throw rocks into the water. A great idea if it weren't for the aforementioned ducks. The poor kid didn't understand though as other kids got to throw rocks. (Their parents were obviously not the Pro-Duck-Life kind.)

After awhile, we walked up to the falls. Absolutely gorgeous. There was a stream that ran by the mill (amazingly enough) so I had to try out my new Keen's and tromp through the water. I stood in the middle of the stream for awhile, just because I could (Keen's are waterproof). I even tried out their hiking properties as I climbed up a huge pile of boulders. The shoes . . . amazing!

Naptime Saturday afternoon. :)

Then we went to the drive-in. That's a big deal in my friend's neck of the woods. And it was a lot of fun. Tons of people were there. The best part of the evening though was getting to cuddle with Markie's son at the end of the movie. (I never turn down a good cuddle.)

Sunday morning found me back on the plane heading for home.

Thanks to Markie and her cute hubby and two cuter kids for helping me have such a wonderful respite from my normal routine. I hope I can come back soon :)

And, if anyone out there is looking for an adventure, may I suggest the Buffalo/Niagara region of New York?
